One Room Challenge – Rainie’s Room Makeover Reveal

The day has come! This room has completely transformed and I am so excited to show you every detail of this room makeover. But first, let’s start with some before photos of this space.

Mood Board

Okay first and foremost, I had obviously not put much effort into decorating this space previous to this. Rainie helped me paint it when we first moved in (Gentle Rain by Sherwin Williams), and that was about it. Most of her decor was carried over from our previous house and didn’t quite fit. This room also has an interesting layout. It is somewhat narrow, with only one window that is off-center and next to the closet.

My initial thoughts for her room makeover consisted of a bigger bed (she had just turned 8 and was ready for an upgrade), layout reconfiguration, and some millwork to give this room some character. After a lot of back and forth, I am SO glad that I went with picture railing and crown moulding. It added so much character in such a simple way. I also initially wanted to go with an olive paint color. But, I wanted something a little more moody and feminine.

Paint

This paint color is called Knoxville Grey by Benjamin Moore and it is a TOTAL DREAM. Not only does it have so much depth, it is also a chameleon color. It changes throughout the day from a deep BLUE/grey/green to a more bright GREEN/blue/grey. It is stunning. Adding the paint color to all of the trim, doors, and ceiling really made for a statement. And I LOVE THAT! It definitely helped to elevate this space a whole lot and really helped to make it feel like a BIG girl room that Rainie wanted so badly.

Okay moving on to this side of the room. Re-configuring the layout so that the bed was on this wall was totally the right move. It just makes so much more sense. I chose the headboard option for this bed and just attached it to a bed frame, since there was no need for her to have a footboard. I chose some light colors for her bedding to bring in some contrast. Her bed is SO COZYYYYYY.

Decor

This vintage rug from Revival Rugs is one of my favorites ever. It inspired this whole room , even through the paint color changes. It adds so much color and dimension in such a subtle way. And that dusty pink is perfect for a girl’s room!

I love that this room is another that is full of my DIY projects. I hope that Rainie will cherish the hard work that I put into this room to make it special for her. These nightstands were a DIY that turned out better than I imagined. The soft wood tone adds some great texture. The crisp modern lines break up all of the curviness going on with her furniture. And they add some additional closed storage for my girl who always has messy nightstands. Click here to see the tutorial for how I built them (and on a budget)!

DIY Dresser

Another DIY that I did for her room was this dresser. CI found this gem on Facebook Marketplace for only $200. It is a Bernhardt, which is super great quality, and it is also HUGE. So much storage! I sanded it down and stained it black and changed out the hardware for a fresh, modern look very similar to the dresser on her mood board that I loved (which was way out of my budget).

Ballet Barre

This view is my favorite of the whole room. And Rainie’s too. She is really into ballet, so I thought it would be so fun to put in a ballet barre for her. We have a large desk in the playroom that I was able to move her school/craft supplies to (she previously had a desk in here). That opened up space for this. And she has been using is every day. I added a small gallery of art above it with some decorative wire more some more texture. I’m in love the way this turned out! I REALLY love gallery walls, but I especially love that this one is hanging from a picture rail!

DIY Closet Built-In

Her closet got a HUGE facelift. This thing was a total wreck before (my before picture was after I emptied half of it out ). I needed a custom storage system that gave her some much needed storage. I jumped on this project with beginner carpentry skills, and I’m pretty proud of my work. It’s not perfect but dang it’s beautiful and gave me exactly what I needed. Click here to see the post on how I built it!

I love all of the little brass details throughout the room in contrast with that moody paint color. These knobs by Emtek (Providence in French Antique) are MOST definitely going throughout the house because I am totally in love.

I am so in love, and so is Rainie. It’s such a special room! I’m so happy with this room makeover
