The dining room built ins are DONE! What a relief. 😍 And I’m obsessed with them by the way. But I feel like all the other walls and unfinished parts of this dining room makeover are judging me. So it’s time to paint the rest of the room!
Painting Trim
I decided paint the whole room the same color as the built ins. It’s Riverway by Sherwin Williams. The trim is satin and the walls are eggshell.
Why is peeling off tape the most satisfying thing in the world? Especially with this contrast between the white and blue. I love it.
A lot of people were asking me how I get such crisp lines when I paint. Here’s how!
First, you need good tape. Frog Tape is my favorite. You want to run your hand over the seal a few times to make sure it’s really on there. You can also paint over your tape with your base color (so in this case, it would be the white that’s on my ceiling) and then paint to make sure there isn’t any bleed through.
Painting the Walls
After the trim was all done, I painted the walls. It’s the perfect color. It is almost the same color that I had before (which I loved) but it isn’t as vibrant and doesn’t lean royal blue.
Painting the Ceiling
I couldn’t decide if I wanted to paint the ceiling or not…but once my sister and I started working on the chandelier for the space, it made the decision for me. I needed to paint the ceiling. So, I covered all my freshly painted walls with plastic and got to work! A large ceiling is 100% always gonna be a spray project for me. Rolling the ceiling sucks so bad after 5 seconds. Here comes the obstacle – my sprayer I got had a defect. So alas, I had to roll…and break for a neck swing every few minutes.
I used the color Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams up here.
New color who ‘dis? Freaking OBSESSED with how this room is turning out. 🥹
Who knows…maybe I’ll paint the ceiling? We’ll see!
