Oh my goodness I LOVE this space! If you’ve been following along, you know that since we had Auggie, we no longer have a guest room. I wanted to turn our basement into a guest room when needed. Also, we were in dire need of storage in the basement. So, I decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and make some DIY basement built-ins with a hidden murphy bed!
This was the space before I started!
I am just tickled! I can’t believe I made all this!
I started off by building these built-in cabinets from Ikea. You can read about that whole process here.
Then, I built this murphy bed! This part definitely had it’s obstacles – but I’m so impressed with myself for sticking it out! You can see that whole project here!
Next up, I painted everything! I initially wanted a bright, fun color. But, with everything going on down here, I decided to go with Swiss Coffee. This way, the murphy bed mural will shine when it’s pulled down. When it’s up, I’ll now have a more professional background for all of my work video calls AND I now have tons of clean-looking storage. No more junk lying around without a home! You can see the entire painting process on this blog post.
As with any DIY project, this was definitely a labor of love and I’m so happy with the outcome! I can’t wait to have guests stay down here!
And here’s it is with the murphy bed up! So clean 🤤
As always, thanks for your continued support. I love this job and I love making these spaces beautiful. ❤️

I would never leave this fortress. Honestly, every thing is perfectly situated. With the exception of a kitchen, this is pretty complete.
Haha same! I want to live down here.
