DINING ROOM MAKEOVER REVEAL

WOW I LOVE THIS DINING ROOM! This was the first room I did when we moved into this house. Since then, my style has evolved, our family has grown, and our needs have changed. Over the last few years, the dining room had become a random collection of household items and a temporary playroom. I had a vision to install some beautiful built-ins to create a moody, cozy space for our family to spend time together. It’s DONE and I could not be happier with how this dining room makeover turned out!

Here’s what the space looked like at its prime when I first worked on it.

And this is the mood board I was working with!

I made this mood board over a year ago so I’ve been carefully thinking through and putting together the pieces of this room for a while now.

Built-Ins

I started off by installing some built-ins to give the space a really cozy feel. I absolutely adore built-ins in any space. You can see the whole built-in process in this blog post!

Paint

Once the built-ins were done, it was time for paint! Now, I loved the color that was already in here. But I decided to paint the whole dining room, including the built-ins because during certain parts of the day, the lighting makes this color look like a royal blue and that’s definitely not what I’m going for. So I decided to pick a paint color that would give me a tone that I love throughout the entire day. I went with Riverway by Sherwin Williams for the walls and built-ins, and Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams on the ceiling. You can see how I painted the whole space here in this blog post.

Lighting

Okay this might be my favorite part of the whole room. My design for this room was centered around this light I found on Pinterest a while ago. I decided to finally bite the bullet on it. It was $600 and it took MONTHS to show up. On top of that, it looked NOTHING like the pictures. It was horrible haha. My sister told me we could definitely make it…so we did! You can see how we did it in this blog post.

Dining Chairs & Console Table

While my sister was working on the light, I refinished a console table and upholstered these dining chairs I’ve had in storage for years. I love them both!

DIY Chess Board Table

I antiqued some final decor pieces and then made this DIY chess board table! See how I did it here.

And that’s that! I absolutely adore this dining room. Our family has already used it so many times and it makes me giddy whenever we spend time together in here! Like I said, this was the first room I did in this house. I feel like this update is like that original room’s mature, older sister. It’s actually very similar to what it was before with the style and color schemes. I think it’s the perfect picture of how my style has evolved since then. I am so proud 🥰

Dining room is done and I’ve got a big project coming up next…THE KITCHEN. AHHHH. Stay tuned in my stories!
